Tips for Round Rangoli Designs with Colours
- Keep the circle rangoli design simple on your first try: three rings and three colours are enough.
- Fill the centre first and move outward so your hand never rests on finished rings.
- Put a dark ring next to a light ring. Red next to yellow, blue next to white.
- Divide the circle with a chalk plus sign and an X to get 8 equal parts for petals.
- For half circle designs, put the straight side along the door line, so the curve faces the guests.
- A 60 cm round design uses about 300 g colour. A 1.2 metre one needs 1 to 1.5 kg.

Common questions
How do I make easy round rangoli designs without a compass?
Use a bangle, katori, steel plate or thali as a stencil and trace it with chalk. For big circles, tie chalk to a string and turn it around a fixed centre point. Then follow the chalk line with powder.
What is a half circle rangoli design?
It is a semicircle with its straight side along the door or wall. It fits narrow landings and flat doors well. For Diwali, place diyas along the curved edge.
Which round rangoli designs for diwali are quick to make?
A circle with a flower centre and a ring of drawn diyas takes about 30 to 40 minutes. A simple three-ring gol rangoli takes 15 minutes. Both look festive with real diyas around them.
What is a chakra rangoli design?
It is a wheel with spokes, often drawn in navy blue with 24 spokes for Independence Day and Republic Day. You can also make a colourful chakra with curved spokes for any festival.
How big should a round rangoli be for a flat door?
For most flat doors, keep the circle rangoli design small: 40 to 60 cm is right. Bigger designs get stepped on. If you have a wider landing, go up to 80 cm or try a half circle.
